Fixing Our Eyes On Jesus In 2026
A new year always carries with it a certain kind of anticipation. Even before the clock strikes midnight, something stirs within us—a longing for change, for progress, for refreshment of the heart. We begin looking forward to what could be, imagining what might unfold, and making lists of what we hope to accomplish. Yet while excitement rises, another current often flows underneath—questions, uncertainties, memories of past disappointments. A new year feels like a clean slate, but the realities of life still linger from the year before.

So how do we begin a new year with hope that is steady—not fleeting, not shallow, not dependent upon our own motivation—but rooted in something far deeper?
Scripture gives us a clear direction:
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”
— Hebrews 12:2a
The hope we need for 2026 is not found in resolutions, plans, success, or circumstances falling perfectly into place. True hope is renewed when we intentionally turn our gaze toward Christ—the One who leads us, strengthens us, and goes before us.
Beyond Resolutions: Where Hope Begins
Every January, we make fresh starts. New planners are opened, goals are written down, and the desire for growth rises to the surface. There is nothing wrong with resolutions. Many of them reflect healthy longing—wanting to live more intentionally, give more generously, love more deeply, or grow more spiritually.
But have you ever noticed how quickly resolutions fade when life gets busy? The gym membership grows dusty by February. Journals close after the first few pages. Spiritual goals are overshadowed by responsibilities, unexpected interruptions, or discouragement.

Why does this happen?
Because resolution, by itself, is not enough. We cannot sustain the year ahead by ambition alone. We need something deeper—something eternal—to anchor us when emotions fluctuate, when plans shift, and when life surprises us.
And this is where the new year meets the timelessness of Christ:
God never intended for us to carry hope by our own strength. He intended for us to anchor our hope in Him.
Looking Back With Honesty, Looking Forward With Faith
Hope for the new year doesn’t begin by pretending the past didn’t happen. It begins by acknowledging what has happened—where we struggled, where we grew weary, where we learned, and where God showed His faithfulness despite the challenges.
Some of us enter 2026 carrying joy—new opportunities, answered prayers, restored relationships, or fruitful seasons. Others enter the year with heaviness—loss, disappointment, unanswered questions, or wounds still healing. And many of us carry both—joy and sorrow intertwined.
Yet no matter how we step into the year, hope is not withheld from anyone. God does not wait for our perfection to offer hope. He meets us where we are—with grace that strengthens the weak and mercy that restores the weary.
This is the beauty of Hebrews 12:2.
The verse doesn’t ask us to fix our eyes inward—to examine our abilities or shortcomings. It asks us to fix our eyes outward and upward—to look to Jesus, who knows us, loves us, and leads us.
Hope is renewed when we take our gaze off what we cannot control and place it on the One who reigns over all.
The Source Of Renewed Hope: Jesus, Our Firm Foundation
Why is fixing our eyes on Jesus the key to renewed hope?
Because Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith.
He initiated our faith, and He continues to strengthen and sustain it. Hope grows not by force of will, but by nearness to Him.
- When we are uncertain, He is steady.
- When we are weary, He gives rest.
- When we feel weak, His strength upholds us.
- When we don’t know the way forward, His Word lights our path.
The year ahead may feel unknown, but Jesus remains unchanging.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
His promises are sure.
His purposes stand firm.
His presence is constant.
This is why hope can be renewed—even when circumstances don’t immediately change.
Hope is not dependent upon what happens around us, but on Who is with us as we walk forward.
Removing Distractions: Lifting Our Eyes Above The Noise
Hope is easily clouded by distraction—fearful news reports, overwhelming responsibilities, expectations we place on ourselves, or the pressure to measure up to cultural standards of success.
When we allow distractions to claim our focus, our hope begins to weaken. We become preoccupied with what could go wrong instead of what God can do. We become burdened by what we lack rather than resting in what Christ has already provided.
But hope flourishes when we lift our eyes—
above fear and toward faith,
above confusion and toward truth,
above the temporary and toward the eternal.
Fixing our eyes on Jesus is not simply a moment—it is a daily practice.
- Opening Scripture before opening social media.
- Whispering prayer before responding in frustration.
- Remembering God’s promises before believing fear’s lies.
- Seeking His presence before rushing into our own plans.
The more we behold Him, the more our hope is renewed.
Walking Forward: Hope That Shapes Our Steps
Hope renewed is not passive—it becomes active. It shapes how we live.
When our eyes are fixed on Jesus:
- Faith becomes steadier in trials.
- Patience grows in seasons of waiting.
- Courage rises when God calls us to step forward.
- Compassion deepens toward others.
- Joy becomes rooted in God’s presence, not circumstances.
Renewed hope begins in the heart, but it flows through our hands and feet—
how we serve, how we encourage, how we speak, how we respond, how we trust.
As we enter 2026, may we not only carry hope—
may we live it.
May we walk in confidence, not because we know what the year holds, but because we know Who holds the year.
A Prayer For Renewed Hope In 2026
Lord Jesus,
As we step into a new year, we turn our eyes toward You. Help us release the weight of last year—the fears, failures, and uncertainties—and receive the renewed hope You offer. Strengthen our faith, anchor our hearts in Your truth, and lead us in paths of righteousness. May our hope rest not on what we desire, but on who You are. Make us steadfast, prayerful, obedient, and full of expectancy for what You will do in and through us. In Your precious name, Amen.
One Step At A Time
As we walk through the days ahead, may this truth guide us:
Hope is not simply felt—it is lived.
Every choice to trust, every moment spent in God’s presence, every decision filtered through faith, becomes a doorway through which hope grows deeper.
We may not know what 2026 will hold, but we know the One who walks beside us.
So let us lift our eyes, steady our hearts, and take the next step—
with hope renewed, fixed on Jesus.
